DRESS THE ADVENTURE!!
From the open road to the fireside — wear it right, feel everything.
A safari is not one experience — it is five, ten, a hundred, all packed into a few extraordinary days. And every single one of them deserves the right outfit.
No matter the safari, It always is starts on a road trip, the open road is calling and you need to answer in comfort. Comfortable bottoms, a light long or short-sleeve shirt, and a buff around your neck are your uniform — breezy enough for the heat, protective enough for the dust that blows through every open window. Slip-on sandals, a wide-brimmed hat, and a pair of shades complete the look. Effortless, ready, alive.
Game drives are where the magic happens — and your outfit plays a real role. Dress in the colours of the bush: khaki, olive, sand, and earth browns. Layer up for the bone-cold dawn, then peel back as the sun rises and the landscape ignites around you. A lion at fifteen metres has no interest in fashion, but it notices a flash of white or a sudden bright colour so the aim is not to startle the animals because you will cause them to flee or even disrupt their natural behaviour. You will need to blend in and belong.
Waterfalls and beaches are pure, joyful chaos. You will get drenched at the falls — lean into it. Quick-dry shorts, a moisture-wicking tee, and grip sandals are all you need. At the beach, a swimsuit under a light linen cover-up and a sarong that multitasks as towel, wrap, and shade cloth makes you unstoppable. Bring a dry bag. Leave all worries behind.
Hiking and trails demand respect and proper kit. Ankle-support boots — broken in before you travel, not on the trail — are non-negotiable. Long trousers tucked into your socks guard against thorns and ticks, a packable rain jacket handles the sudden afternoon downpours, and a small daypack keeps your hands gloriously free for the scramble to the top.
If your safari includes a campfire, hey? the fire is lit, the sky fills with stars, and the night wraps around you like a living thing, not forgetting the stories and the Nyama Choma. Layer up — fleece, long trousers, warm closed-toe shoes, and a puffer vest that traps every bit of heat. The pearl of Africa’s nights is colder, quieter, and more beautiful than anything you have ever known. Dress for the chill. Stay for the magic.
